Indian Postage Stamps in Devanagari - Compilation
When we talk about Indian Stamps in Devanagari, two stamps that were designed in 1960s to commemorate 'Ashadhasya Pratham Divase' - First day of Aashadh (Marathi Month Aashadh), would be celebrated and cherished first. This stamp is based on the painting by Professor Radha Charan Bagchi of Kala Bhavan, Shantiniketan illustrating scene from the great works of Kavi Kulguru Kalidas - The Meghaduta. The designs of stamp has been executed by the staff artists of Indian Security Press - Mr. P.B.Chitnis and Mr. K.M. Dhar. This stamp is based on the painting by Raja Ravi Varma - celebrated in this country for his portrayals of figures and scenes from classical and mythological life and lore; illustrating scene from the great works of Kavi Kulguru Kalidas - The Shakuntal. Incidentally this was the very first painting done by Raja Ravi Varma on Indian Mythology in 1878.
