Madhuri Purandare

This is a compilation of the children books designed by Ms Madhuri Purandare.  Her illustration led book designs make her children books a very engaging reading experience - both in terms of textual and picture reading.

One of her exceptional book on picture reading 'Chitravachan' is so engrossing that it makes the reader of all ages spend hours interpreting it. Peeping into a busy street from an altogether different perspective - interpreting and living the expressions on the faces and body languages of different characters is an eye-opening experience. 

She has received the prestigious Sahitya Academy Award for the year 2014 for her contribution to children’s literature. 

Madhuri Purandare is an internationally known artist and writer. She was born on 29th April 1952. After completing her GD Art (Painting) from Sir. J.J. School of Art, Mumbai, she studied painting and graphic arts in Paris. She has also completed Diploma in French from the University of Pune.

Today she is a well known name in the field of literature, illustration and painting. She is also very active in the fields of cinema, theatre and music. She is the chief art advisor at the Su-Darshan Art Gallery.

She has written many books for children as well as adults. She has also illustrated and translated a number of them. One of her well known book is - Picasso - A biography of Picasso in Marathi & Hindi which got the Kothavale award.

She has written many stories and poems for children. Some of her popular books are - Radhacha Ghar, Yash Series, Chitravachan, Hana's Suitcase, Vachu Anande series and the Lihave Netke series.

She has not only written and illustrated books but also translated many from french to marathi. Some of them are - La voix Humaine, L'homme qui plantait des arbres, Lust for life, Waiting for Godot etc. She also translated Baluta by Daya Pawar, Vaada Chirebandi by Mahesh Elkunchwar (to be published), Kosala by Bhalchandra Nemade (to be published) and an essay by Tarabai Shinde from Marathi to French.

She is also the first author to receive the ‘Big Little book Award’ in its very first year 2016, given by Parag Initiative of Tata Trust.
